CEMIX AQUASTOP is a cement based powder which is white in colour, however can be tinted with CEMIX oxides or painted over if required. It can be applied with a brush, roller, sprayed or trowelled to any correctly prepared concrete or masonry surface. CEMIX AQUASTOP is recommended as an effective, decorative waterproofing coating on interior or exterior concrete, masonry, concrete block, mortar, plaster, stucco and brick. It is not designed to be applied over bitumen, tar, oil, rubber, plastic, metal or previously painted concrete surfaces.
As a membrane waterproofing solution for both the positive (e.g. outside of the house) and negative (e.g. inside of the house) face of a wall/floor or similar structure
Thoroughly clean the area to be coated so as to remove all loose and deleterious materials and debris, including all dust, dirt and oil. If necessary, the whole area may be water blasted to assist with adequate preparation, though extreme care must be taken to ensure this does not damage the substrate. The substrate surface should ideally be dry though this is not critical. If it is too wet however you may experience difficulties in applying the CEMIX AQUASTOP.
CEMIX AQUASTOP can first be used as a filler for any large cracks or hollows, using a suitable clean dry sand added at a ratio of 1 part CEMIX AQUASTOP to two parts sand, mixed with a small amount of water. CEMIX AQUASTOP must be applied within one hour of mixing. Apply to the surface thoroughly and evenly ensuring any air bubbles or pin holes are brushed out.
Two coats are recommended. Apply the second coat at right angles to the first. The second coat may be applied any time 6 hours after the first coat. Do not apply CEMIX AQUASTOP if rain is expected during or immediately after application. High winds, direct sunlight or excessive heat may cause CEMIX AQUASTOP to cure too quickly. It is recommended to apply to exterior work while it is shaded.
DRYING & CURING TIME
Ambient temperatures will affect the initial drying time of CEMIX AQUASTOP. In general, 7 days will be required before it can effectively resist the passage of water.
Place approximately 900ml of clean fresh tap water per kg of CEMIX AQUASTOP powder in to a bucket or similar container. Next add the CEMIX AQUASTOP to the water at the appropriate dose rate while stirring constantly with a flat stick until a smooth and creamy paint like consistency is achieved. Add further water if required however do not exceed more than 1.1 litres per kg of CEMIX AQUASTOP powder in total. Allow to stand for 10 minutes then stir again before applying. If required, stir occasionally while using to prevent settling. If desired, a small amount of CEMIX oxide can be added to tint the mixture. This must be mixed in at the outset and at a ratio of no more than 40 grams per kg of CEMIX AQUASTOP.
Do not apply outside if rain is expected during or immediately after application. High winds, direct sunlight or excessive heat may cause CEMIX AQUASTOP to cure too quickly. It is recommended to paint exterior work while it is shaded.
It cannot be applied over bitumen, tar, oil, rubber, plastic, metal etc. surfaces or previously painted concrete surfaces or any other existing coating. Watch the YouTube video and contact CEMIX technical if you require further assistance. Follow all safety instructions on the pack; wear gloves, mask and especially eye protection.
