BONDING AGENTS
Cemix Cemkey Concentrate is engineered for use as both a primer and a concrete additive, making it highly versatile for a wide range of interior DIY and building projects. When applied correctly, it creates a tacky coating on porous substrates that helps tile adhesive, render and leveller products bond much stronger. You can also mix Cemkey directly into your cement or mortar to boost durability, reduce surface dusting and enhance resistance to mild acids and alkalis.
TYPICAL USES:
Priming concrete slabs before applying tile adhesive or floor levellers
Preparing masonry walls or brickwork for rendering or tiling
Bonding screeds to existing concrete or old substrate without mechanical keying
Improving adhesion for floor repair compounds or levelling mortars
Using as an additive in cement mixes (for patching, rendering or screeding) to improve performance and finish
Suitable for interior use only
ADVANTAGES:
Dual‑Function: Works both as a primer (undiluted) and as an admixture (diluted) for added flexibility.
Improved Bond Strength: Increases adhesion of tile adhesives, levellers and repair mortars to porous, cementitious substrates.
Reduces Surface Dusting: When added to mixing water, helps reduce dusting on freshly laid cement screeds or renders.
Resistance to Mild Acids & Alkali: Enhances the chemical resistance of the cementitious mix when used as an additive.
COVERAGE:
Varies according to the substrate condition. Approximately 2m² per litre of product.
PREPARATION:
The substrate should be free of dust, grease, wax, oil, dirt, loose plaster, laitance, curing compounds, paint and all other friable materials and contaminants likely to prevent the adhesive bonding. New concrete should be left with a wood float finish and sufficiently aged as per manufacturer’s recommendations. Smooth surfaces on new and old concrete should be scabbled. All substrates should be structurally sound, securely fastened and properly supported to eliminate any movement that may cause cracking. Dampen the substrate with clean water immediately before the application of CEMIX CEMKEY CONCENTRATE.
MIXING:
As a Primer:
Use CEMIX CEMKEY CONCENTRATE undiluted. No mixing required. Can also be diluted with clean water at a ratio of 1:1.
As an Additive:
Refer to the manufacturer’s recommendations for CEMIX product being used.
APPLICATION:
As a Primer:
1. Stir before use.
2. Apply the undiluted product to the substrate with a brush, roller or sprayer.
Note: Ensure CEMIX CEMKEY CONCENTRATE is tacky before the subsequent application of another CEMIX product.
As an Additive:
Refer to the manufactuer’s recommendations for the CEMIX product being used.
DRYING & CURING TIME:
As a Primer:
Drying time depends on the substrate, substrate condition, climate, the type of application and the materials being applied. As a guideline, drying time is approximately 20 minutes.
