DESCRIPTION
CEMIX GENERAL PURPOSE CEMENT is a premium Portland cement used in commercial, industrial and residential construction in New Zealand. It fully complies with the requirements of Type CEMIX GENERAL PURPOSE CEMENT in New Zealand standard NZS 3122: 2009 – General purpose and blended cement.
TYPICAL APPLICATIONS & USES
Perfect for all kinds of building and construction projects such as;
ADVANTAGES
APPLICATION
CONCRETE MIXER
Measure cement, aggregate and water. Place 2/3 of the water in mixer. Add 1/2 of the measured aggregate. Place all the cement in the mixer. Add the remaining aggregate. Gradually add water to the desired consistency and mix for at least 3 minutes.
HAND MIXER
Measure cement, aggregate and water. Thoroughly mix dry ingredients. Make a hollow then add 2/3 of the water. Mix thoroughly to a uniform colour and consistency. Gradually add water and mix until the desired level of consistency is achieved.
LAYING
Placing: Proper compaction is essential to attain maximum strength. Compact by rodding, tamping or vibration. A timber edge can be used to screed and level the concrete.
FINISHING
Delay final finishing until the concrete has begun to stiffen and the surface is free of excess ‘bleed’ water. Avoid over-trowelling as it can lead to surface darkening and colour variations.
CURING
It is recommended that all products containing General Purpose Cement be cured for a minimum period of 7 days. Typical methods such as ponding, curing blankets and curing membranes are recommended. The curing process should begin as soon as the concrete surface can receive the curing method chosen. The practice of curing will enable concrete to react its potential strength. It will reduce the potential for plastic cracking and improve surface durability and overall quality i.e. abrasion resistance, impermeability and a reduction in carbonated rate.
AVOID EXCESS WATER
Excess water reduces the strength and durability.
TECHNICAL DATA
The data shown above reflects typical results based on laboratory testing under controlled conditions. Reasonable variations may occur on site.
LIMITATIONS
The success of any project involving CEMIX GENERAL PURPOSE CEMENT is dependent on a variety of factors. Attention must be given to batching, mixing, selection of aggregates & admixtures, placing, finishing, curing and formwork.
STORAGE
CEMIX CEMIX GENERAL PURPOSE CEMENT has a shelf life of Portland cement products is dependent on the storage conditions. It is necessary for bagged Portland cement to be stored in dry conditions and protected from rain, dew or any other moisture source. Bagged cement that has hardened or is lumpy as a result of exposure to moisture should not be used.
CLEANING
Clean all tools with water & brush immediately after use.
